Fleabay It Interview

By Interviewer at 07/15/07 16:49

web interview Fleabay It Interview
Name of your website?

Fleabay It

Your name?

Brian

Your Location (city, etc)

Lincoln, NE

When did you start your website and why?

I started it a few months ago because I thought it was a cool and useful idea for a website.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Fleabay It is a community-driven website where people submit and discuss interesting eBay auctions they have found. Shoppers find interesting things to buy and sellers can promote their goods in a new way.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

The promotion. Finding new people to join Fleabay It is always a challenge.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Probably finding interesting content. eBay is just full of bizarre auctions.

What was your biggest mistake?

Not getting a .com domain name right away.

Who maintains your website and why?

I do, because I'm cheap labor ;).

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

This is my business's first real big project, so it's been a lot of learning experiences.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Online commerce is booming and will never die. It's finally established itself as a truly legitimate marketplace that can be trusted for everyday use.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

I think SEO is just another technical application of basic marketing. If you know marketing, SEO is just reworking those ideas using more technical methods. That's it. It's not rocket science by any means.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines are useful, but I think they get too much credit. They are just one source of traffic for a website, and not usually the "best" source of traffic for most sites.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth has been good thus far.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

I think a non-targeted pay per click advertising campagain was the worst.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

More accountability. Anyone can go online and do whatever they want and often times that's not a good thing.

What's the most exciting thing about Fleabay It?

All the great auctions that people find and submit. I'm a bit of an eBay junkie, so it's always fun to see what people try and sell. It's really great.

What is your website address?

Fleabay It
